Portuguese soprano Carla Caramujo is a graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, where she completed her Bachelors, Masters in Performance and Opera Course with distinction. She is also a Samling Artist.
Carla is a winner of the Luísa Todi National Singing Competition (Portugal), the Musikförderpreis der Hans-Sachs-Loge (Germany), Chevron Excellence, Ye Cronies and Dewar Awards (United Kingdom).
She made her debut in the role of Gilda in Rigoletto at the Teatro Nacional de S. Carlos where she subsequently performed as Contessa Folleville in Il Viaggio a Reims, Clorinda in La Cenerentola, D. Anna in Don Giovanni, Adele in Die Fledermaus, Lisette in La Rondine and Princesse in L’Enfant et les Sortilèges. Other roles and concert repertoire include Violetta in La Traviata, Adina in L’elisir d’amore, Armida in Rinaldo, Königin in Die Zauberflöte, Madame Herz in Der Schauspieldirektor, Fiordiligi in Cosi fan tutte, Valetto in L’Incoronazione di Poppea, Nena in Lo frate ‘nnamorato, Pergolesi, Vespina in La Spinalba by Francisco António de Almeida, Fenicia in Armida by Myslivecek, Fata Azzurra in La bella dormente nel bosco by Respighi, Beethoven 9th Symphony, mozart’s C minor Mass, Orff’s Carmina Burana, Haydn’s Die Schöpfung, Händel’s Messiah, Bach’s Passion According to St. John/St. Matthew, Brahms’ Requiem and Strauss’ Lieder der Ophelie, in the United Kingdom (Barbican, New Sage Gateshead, Edinburgh Festival Theatre, Trinity Theatre), Uruguay (SODRE), Spain (Festival Are-more), Colombia (Teatro Mayor), Mexico, Argentina (Usina del Arte), Portugal (Gulbenkian, TNSC, Teatro da Trindade, Centro Cultural de Belém, Casa da Música) and several international festivals.
Her interest in contemporary repertoire led her to debut the role of Salomé in the première of O Sonho by Pedro Amaral with London Sinfonietta in London’s The Place and at the Gulbenkian. She was La Princesse at the Latin American premiere of Philip Glass’s Orphée at the Rio de Janeiro Municipal Theater, Flight Controller in Jonathon Dove’s Flight in Glasgow, Soprano in Lady Sarashina by Peter Eötvös with the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra (S. Luiz Theatre). She performed Salvador Pueyo’s Cap al meu silence with the Xalapa’s Chamber Orchestra (Mexico) and Lua, Canção de uma morte by Nuno Côrte-Real with the Portuguese Symphony Orquestra at CCB Lisbon. In works by Brazilian composer João Guilherme Ripper, she played Mariana Alcoforado in Cartas Portuguesas at the Gulbenkian, Iara in Onheama at the Terras sem Sombra Festival, Five Poems of Vinicius de Moraes, Domitila and the world premiere of Icamiabas at the Belém do Pará International Music Festival.

Carla performed the complete songs by Mozart in a recital at the SODRE in Montevideo, live broadcasted by the classical radio in Uruguay. Her recent opera galas included Lucia di Lammermoor, Elvira (I Puritani) and Ophelia (Hamlet by A. Thomas) mad scenes.
She performed Un Moto di gioia, Mozart Concert Arias by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker with the Portuguese National Ballet (CNB) and baroque orchestra Divino Sospiro.
Carla worked with stage directors and conducters such as Emilio Sagi, Paul Curran, Katharina Thalbach, André Heller-Lopes, Annilese Miskimmon, James Bonas, Antonio Pirolli, Hannu Lintu, João Paulo Santos, Julia Jones, Domenico Longo, Joana Carneiro, Tobias Volkmann, José Miguel Esandi, Johannes Stert, Nicholas Kraemer, Marcos Magalhães, Alexander Polyanichko, Pedro Neves, Pedro Carneiro, Nuno Coelho, Jorge Matta, Yi-Chen Lin, Priscila Bomfim and Christian Curnyn.
Carla Caramujo recorded Pedro Camacho’s Requiem for Inês de Castro, a finalist in the 2019 Grammy nominations, António Fragoso’s Complete Songs with pianist João Paulo Santos (Framart 2018), Domitila by João Guilherme Ripper with Toy Ensemble (MPMP 2020) and the role of Flamínia in Il Mondo della Luna by Avondano with Os músicos do Tejo (Naxos 2020).
